I'm exploring hard-shell rooftop tent options that fit over the truck bed of the Rivian R1T. iKamper Skycamp Mini seems to be a suitable choice. I've also come across is the Roofnest Condor Overland. That features an aluminum shell with side rails for gear mounting. Is this useful, or just a heavy load on the battery?

Has anyone installed these or other hard-shell tents on their R1T? I'm particularly interested in hearing about experiences with the iKamper Skycamp Mini and the Roofnest Condor Overland. I'm cautious since I wanna make this purchase last a long time.

If you’re planning to keep the setup for a long time, I’d lean towards the iKamper Skycamp Mini. It’s a bit lighter than the Roofnest and easier to set up solo, which might save you some frustration over the years. That said, if you regularly haul extra gear, the Roofnest’s rails could be worth it. Just remember that any rooftop load impacts aerodynamics, so keep an eye on battery efficiency!

So I'm thinking about getting the Roofnest Condor Overland. It seems like a really good option, but I'm worried about the lack of awnings and stuff. I heard they're working on some, but nothing's out yet.

I know the tent might be a little low if I put an awning on the side, but I could just move it to the middle of the roof if I need more space, especially when it's cold out.

My friend is a big fan of his Alu-Cab Khaya! He uses the same tent design for both his rooftop tent and his camper, and he's been super happy with it for over two years.
