My Rivian R1T is often in Conserve Mode for long-distance trips. Over time, I noticed the front tires wearing prematurely, replacing them was expensive, with limited options. At 25,000 miles, during warranty and recall work, I learned my front tires were at 3/32. I’ve been waiting for Michelin Defender LTX tires in 21-inch, but delays make it tough to hold out.

Rivian offered to replace just the front tires, and I realized you might not need to swap all four at once. With independent motors on each tire, the system should handle mixed wear smartly, unlike traditional AWD vehicles. Still, I wonder, could tire tech and maintenance become as adaptive as these EVs?

Tire wear on these EV trucks is no joke, especially with all that instant torque. Good to know Rivian’s smart enough to handle mixed wear! I’m holding out for the Defenders too, they seem like a solid choice for long trips. Meanwhile, have you tried keeping the tires rotated more frequently? I’ve been sticking with 5k mile rotations, and so far, it’s keeping the wear pretty even. Definitely feels like tire tech needs to catch up with how advanced these trucks are.
